Beta Reading Services by Vetted Beta Readers
Are you looking for premium beta reading services for a US audience? Placing an order with us means you’ll receive honest feedback from a member of your target audience. Our beta readers are reliable and don’t hold back when negative feedback is warranted. Here’s what you can expect when you order from Beta Reader Bookings LLC and how we differ from other beta reading companies.
What to expect from beta readers
Beta readers who contract with our company always provide a beta reader report. The report includes their general thoughts and opinions. For example, they’ll state what parts they liked and why. But they’ll also highlight areas they didn’t like and provide reasons for why those parts didn’t resonate. Beta readers also address issues with pacing, plot and subplots, characters, clarity, and more.
Authors may also submit up to five specific questions for the beta reader to answer. This is optional, but it is included in every beta reading service at no additional charge.
Once the beta reader submits their report (and answers to author questions, if applicable), an editor reviews the report to ensure the reader has fulfilled their job. (It’s important to note that this is just an extra precaution we take since our readers are already vetted.)
How much do beta readers cost?
The costs for beta reading services vary. Our cheapest service is less than $30, but beta reading for novels typically costs $110 or more, depending on word count. Shorter novels might cost less, and longer novels might cost more. We also offer optional add-ons and upgrades that can affect beta reading prices (more on that below).
We do run sales on beta reading services from time to time. If you would like to be notified when we are running promotions, you can request to be added to our mailing list by contacting [email protected].
Beta reading services: Optional add-ons
Some authors have longer manuscripts, higher than the word counts we list online. Others want to ask their beta readers more than the included five questions, or they might want their feedback in a hurry. That’s why we offer optional add-ons.
Additional questions for beta readers
It’s not uncommon to have more than five beta reader questions, especially if you have a lengthier manuscript. If you do want to ask more questions, you can do so for $5 per additional question.
- So, if you ask six questions, you’d pay an additional $5.
- If you ask 10 questions, you’d pay an additional $25.
- If you ask 15 questions, you’d pay an additional $50.
To place an order that includes additional questions, simply email us at [email protected] to place a custom order. Rather than uploading your manuscript and going through the checkout process, we’ll ask you to send us your manuscript via email, and we’ll send you a PayPal invoice.
(Note: Please refer to our terms and conditions for details about multi-part questions.)
Rush beta reading orders
You can generally expect beta reader feedback for a 90,000-word novel within four weeks. (The turnaround time may differ for other word counts.) However, you can find expedited delivery options on each beta reading service page. For most services, there are at least a few turnaround times to choose from. That way, you can pay just a little more if you’d like feedback a little sooner, or you can opt to receive your feedback much sooner.
Beta reading service for long manuscripts
Several of our listings for online beta reading services don’t exceed certain word counts. For example, our beta reading service for novellas maxes out at 40,000 words. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t place an order for a 43,000-word novella. The cost for word overage is calculated at only $0.0015 per word. That means you’d pay $4.50 more than the standard listing price.
Like with beta reading services that include extra questions, authors who have a word overage should email us to place a custom order.
Beta readers for hire
Our beta readers for hire have all passed assessments. And, at this time, they are all based in the US. As stated, we will choose the best-fitting beta reader for your manuscript. All communications are handled by an editor, which helps prevent any awkward discussions that might arise if the reader has negative feedback. (More on this later.)
Reach your target audience
When onboarding our beta readers, we ask them to fill out a profile. This helps ensure your manuscript is matched to someone who most accurately reflects your target audience. Here are some of the things we look for when choosing a beta reader for a particular project:
- Does the beta reader regularly read and enjoy this genre?
- Does the beta reader have the availability to take this project?
- Does the word count align with the reader’s schedule and interest?
- Are there any trigger warnings that would prevent the reader from enjoying or reading the manuscript?
Honest book critique
One of the most common issues when using beta readers is not receiving honest feedback. That’s why we take several steps to ensure critiques are as honest as possible.
- We look for readers’ capabilities to provide honest and professional feedback during the vetting process.
- We don’t solicit reviews or testimonials, and readers don’t receive tips or reviews from authors. (This way, readers are NOT encouraged to provide unwarranted positive feedback.)
- Authors and readers don’t directly interact with one another, which helps readers feel more comfortable providing negative feedback when necessary. (Readers don’t need to worry about any awkward conversations with authors.)
Important Note: Authors and readers communicate with the same editor, and authors may ask questions about the process at any time.
Beta reading services we offer
Our most popular genres are Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, and Memoirs. However, we offer beta reading services for nearly every genre. (We’ll only assign manuscripts to readers who regularly read and enjoy the genres in question, so, although it’s rare, certain genres are sometimes temporarily “out of stock”). Here are the genres we provide beta reading for:
