Is the price listed for one reader?
The prices online reflect a beta reading service from one beta reader. For most services, authors can now order a second beta reading service directly online. This allows authors to take advantage of the multi-reader discount without needing to place a custom order. However, authors can still place custom orders by sending an email to [email protected].
Do I need to book a beta reading service in advance?
Typically, there is no need to book a beta reading service in advance. However, if you have special requests, such as having one reader read an entire series, we suggest you send an email to [email protected] to inquire about booking the reader in advance.
Do your beta readers use AI?
No. We have a strict no-AI policy for beta readers. All reports are reviewed by the owner of the company to ensure feedback meets our quality standards.
Where are beta readers based?
At this time, all of our beta readers are based in the United States.
How long does it take to receive feedback?
Options for turnaround times are listed on each service page. We offer expedited turnaround times for an additional fee.
Can I order a beta reading service without ordering through the website?
Authors may place a beta reading order via email. Please send an email to [email protected] if you would like to place an order via email. We bill via the company’s PayPal account for email orders.
What payment options do you accept?
We offer several payment options, including PayPal, debit and credit cards, Venmo, and Google Pay. Authors may pay online during the checkout process or by paying the PayPal invoice sent to them after placing an order.
What if I have more than five questions for the beta reader?
If you would like to ask the reader more than five specific questions, please send an email to [email protected]. However, it is important to note that it is not typically necessary to ask basic questions, such as whether there are plot holes, whether the characters are likable, whether there are inconsistencies, etc. These are all addressed in the beta reading report.
What’s the VIP membership?
The new VIP membership is a three-month membership. Members receive additional perks, such as automatic upgrades and the option to ask follow-up questions. Authors can find more information by visiting the Beta Reader Bookings LLC VIP Membership page.
What if my word count exceeds the word counts listed online?
If you have a manuscript that exceeds the word counts listed online, you might need to place a custom order. Please send an email to [email protected] for pricing and turnaround times.
What if I don’t have any questions for the beta reader?
If you do not have specific questions, that’s okay! It’s not uncommon for us to receive beta reading orders that do not include questions. The reports are very thorough.
What can I do to ensure my reader accurately reflects my target audience?
Choosing the genre that most accurately reflects your manuscript, including all applicable trigger warnings, and indicating whether your work is YA all help us get your work to the appropriate reader. If your work is non-fiction, including a note regarding specific topics and themes also helps ensure your manuscript is sent to a fitting reader. If you want to provide additional information that you think is important, please send an email to [email protected] directly before or directly after placing your order.
What file types do you accept?
Manuscripts should be sent or uploaded as a PDF or Word (.docx) file. We do not work with Google Docs. However, authors can convert a Google Doc file to a PDF or Word document before uploading.
Do you offer alpha reading?
Yes, we offer alpha reading and beta reading services. We offer first chapter(s) critiques and partial manuscript critiques. Authors may submit unfinished manuscripts of any word count. However, we suggest you note that the manuscript is unfinished when placing your order.
Do you have ARC readers?
No. For ethical reasons, we believe that ARC readers should be free. Our readers will not leave public reviews or ratings for the books that they read.
