Editorial Services
If you’re looking for editorial services, please contact the owner of the company by sending an email to [email protected]. Alternatively, you may fill out the form at the bottom of this page. All editorial inquiries should include the genre, approximate word count, type of editing desired, and the desired start date.
Please note that Kate, the owner of the company, is the only editor on the team. Editorial spots are limited, and the owner may not accept every project.

About the Editor
Katelyn is a part-time NY-based editor who has edited and critiqued several books throughout her career. She mainly works with children’s manuscripts, memoirs, non-fiction, and fantasy. However, she also enjoys thrillers and some literary fiction. Katelyn holds a Bachelor of Science in Business, with strong focuses in business ethics and communication. She is passionate about helping stories shine while maintaining authors’ voices and styles. Previously, Katelyn tutored college students in literature and grammar, and she created lesson plans for elementary and middle-school students. While she still performs editorial services, Katelyn’s primary focus is vetting and managing beta readers so she can spend more time with her family.
Structural and Developmental Editing
Due to time constraints, for fiction, Kate only performs developmental editing for children’s picture books, early readers, and some middle-grade books. For non-fiction, Kate performs developmental editing for memoirs and structural editing for guides and some other non-fiction works. All inquiries regarding developmental or structural editing for non-fiction manuscripts should include a brief synopsis. The editor does not perform sample edits for structural or developmental edits.
Editorial Assessments
Kate performs editorial assessments for most genres. However, memoirs, thrillers, literary fiction, and non-fiction are her favorite genres to assess. Assessments are less in-depth than developmental and structural edits. However, they are also much cheaper. Authors often opt for developmental assessments prior to querying or if they aren’t certain whether full developmental or structural edits are needed. The editor does not perform sample edits for assessments.
Line and Copy Editing
Kate performs line and copy editing services. She specializes in line and copy editing for the U.S. market. She follows CMOS guidelines by default. However, she is also proficient in AP and Oxford style guides. Prices are only determined after she performs a free sample edit. When determining the cost, the editor considers several factors, including word count, genre, and the condition of the manuscript.
What are line and copy edits?
Line editing addresses tenses, awkward sentences, lengthy dialogue tags, repetition, and similar issues. Copy editing often focuses more on grammar, adherence to the specific style guide, and other technical issues. Line and copy editing can sometimes be performed at the same time. This depends on the condition of the manuscript. If a manuscript requires heavy line editing, a copy edit may need to be performed after line editing.
Editorial Contracts and Payment
The editor will provide a contract for every editorial project. Here are a few things included in every contract:
- A clause that prohibits the editor from distributing the author’s work
- A clause that states the author owns all rights to their work
- Payment details and timeframes
- The type of editing performed
All invoices for editorial projects are billed via the company’s PayPal account. Unlike beta reading services offered by the company, most editorial projects do not need to be paid in full at the time of booking. However, authors who wish to pay in full may receive a discount. All editorial projects require a deposit of at least 25% at the time of booking.
Editorial projects that do not exceed $200 must be paid in full at the time of booking.
