Are you looking for a manuscript assessment (a.k.a. an editorial assessment or a manuscript evaluation) instead of a beta reading service? Manuscript assessments are performed by an editor and aren’t based on opinions like beta reading is. Instead, the editor assesses your manuscript with your target market and potential issues for agents (if applicable) in mind. An assessment will also include suggestions for which type(s) of editing your manuscript might need. The editor will assess how well your manuscript fits the intended the genre, whether your manuscript is too short or too long, how well developed your characters are, etc. However, a manuscript assessment is not as in-depth as a full developmental edit.
